We ship many packages of Plaine Products every day. And we recognize that emissions from shipping make up the vast majority of our carbon footprint. So we set a goal for 2020 to provide carbon-neutral shipping. And now, with every shipment, we offset the carbon emissions with the help of our new partner, We Are Neutral. At no additional cost to you!
The Environmental Impact of Shipping
We have all become accustomed to online shopping. It’s so incredibly easy to shop online and have products arrive at our door in a couple of days. While we save time and cut back on our own personal travel around town, and its a safer option during these times of COVID, there is still an environmental cost to all of that shipping. Fortunately, there are several ways that we can help reduce the impact of our shopping habits on the environment.
One of the things we can do is purchase carbon offsets. Carbon offsets, which have been around for about 20 years, are a practical and effective way to address climate change and stimulate the growth of renewable energy. Carbon offsetting is used to balance out our emissions by investing in projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions like reforestation, solar energy, and methane capture.
Who is We Are Neutral?
We have partnered with We Are Neutral, a 501(c)3 environmental nonprofit, that helps businesses measure, reduce, and offset their carbon footprints through environmental education as well as hands-on carbon reduction and offset initiatives. Our donation to We Are Neutral to offset our carbon footprint funds their carbon offset and carbon reduction projects including energy upgrades for low-income families, indigenous tree planting, invasive species removal, landfill diversion, landfill methane capture, vehicle fuel efficiency tune-ups, urban agriculture, and massive amounts of environmental education.
Plaine Products started because we were inspired to combat the problem of plastic pollution in the ocean. But there is so much more we can do to address the climate crisis. Our work to eliminate single-use plastic and reuse bottles, pumps, and packaging helps reduce greenhouse gases and prevent deforestation. It also helps reduce pollution and waste that often ends up on land and in the ocean. And now, we can proudly say that we are further reducing our carbon footprint through offsetting the amount of greenhouse gases our shipping emits into the atmosphere by working with We Are Neutral to be carbon neutral.
