B Corps are a new type of company that recognizes the power of business to solve social and environmental problems. Certified B Corps meet higher standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability. It’s like Fair Trade certification but for the whole business. The performance standards B Corps meet are comprehensive, transparent and verified.
Unlike traditional corporations, Certified B Corporations are legally required to consider the impact of their decisions not only on their shareholders, but also on their stakeholders. Examples of stakeholders include workers, suppliers, community, consumers, and the environment. The process for being approved as a B Corp is rigorous. To date, there are only over 2,200 Certified B Corps across 140 industries in 50 countries. Plaine Products is now one of 17 B Corps located in Ohio.
The Leaping Bunny Program is the gold-standard in cruelty-free certification internationally for personal care and household products companies. Leaping Bunny certification guarantees that no animal testing has been conducted at any stage of product development.
“We’re thrilled to join the ranks of B Corporations,” said Lindsey McCoy, CEO and Co-Founder of Plaine Products. “After years in the nonprofit sector it was important to us that even though Plaine Products is officially a business, we stand for something more than making money. Our commitment to non-toxic products and reducing waste in the world is why we exist.”
“We are very happy to have Plaine Products join the growing list of cruelty-free companies that are Leaping Bunny certified whereby they promise to manufacture products that are free of animal testing at all stages of product development,” said Kim Paschen, Program Manager for Leaping Bunny.
