Face Toner Joins our Facial Products Line

Plaine Product has a new product: face toner. This means one less plastic bottle on your counter and one step closer to a single-use plastic-free bathroom.

If you’re new to face toner and considering adding it to your routine we’re happy to tell you a little more. Toner is used after Plaine Products face wash to help clean off any extra residue and balance the skin’s natural pH levels. The ingredients soothe and calm skin irritations and shrink pores, while hydrating the skin naturally. Application prepares the skin for face moisturizer to follow.

You can apply face toner by soaking a cotton pad and wiping it over your entire face, neck, and chest. Or, even more environmentally friendly, you can skip the cotton pad, put a few drops of toner into the palms of your hands, and then press the toner into your face.

Check the Face Toner Label

In addition to our sustainable packaging, the toner’s ingredients give you another reason to pick our product over other versions. Here are five ingredients you don’t want to be listed on your face toner – and the ingredients we’re using instead.

Sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) / Sodium laureth sulfate (SLES). Unfortunately, this surfactant can be found in more than 90 percent of personal care products. SLS’s are known to be skin, lung, and eye irritants. Additionally, there is potential for SLS to interact and combine with other chemicals to form nitrosamines, a carcinogen. These combinations can lead to other issues like kidney and respiratory damage.

Instead of SLS we use two different ingredients that produce the same results. Caprylyl/Capryl Glucoside is a mild, surfactant that is obtained from a well known renewable raw material: vegetables! Sodium cocoyl glutamate is a mild vegetable-based surfactant derived from coconut oil and glucose from corn. Both of these score a 1 on the Environmental Working Group’s Skin Deep database of ingredients.

Anti-Acne Ingredients

Benzoyl peroxide and Salicylic Acid are commonly used over-the-counter anti-acne ingredients. While both can be effective, high concentrations of benzoyl peroxide can also cause peeling and can accelerate signs of aging due to clinical dryness. It can also damage the epidermal layer and disrupt the skin’s pH levels and sebum production levels. Used at high doses, salicylic acid can seriously disrupt your pH balance and cause redness, tightness, itching, and stinging. A high concentration of alcohol is a red flag on a toner ingredient list, as its presence can be aggravating to acne-prone users.

Instead of those harsher options, we used three natural ingredients that are just as effective. Rosa Canina, also known as Rosehip Oil, is rich in essential fatty acids and extremely high in Vitamin C. Not only do the fatty acids and Vitamin A in rosehip oil moisturize the skin, but they also promote skin regeneration and can improve skin flexibility and permeability. This means that rosehip oil products can improve skin texture and even reduce the appearance of acne scars or stretch marks.

The rosehip oil works together with another of our key ingredients, Aniba Rosaedora (Rosewood) Oil. Used to help protect the skin from acne, dryness, dullness, this oil helps to balance all skin types and can be used by those with oily and dry skin.

As a base ingredient Plaine Products uses aloe vera leaf juice, which contains 75 nutrients including 8-essential amino acids and vitamins A, B1, B2, B6, B12, C and E. Long noted for its healing properties, aloe calms inflammation and redness and reduces infection caused by acne.

But how does it smell?

Fragrance has long been a term that companies have used to hide all sorts of things. It was created to protect a company’s “secret formula.”  But it’s hard to know what exactly it is they are hiding. According to the Environmental Working Group (EWG) Skin Deep Database, fragrance mixes have been associated with allergies, dermatitis, respiratory distress and potential effects on the reproductive system.

Instead of “fragrance” as a blanket term, Plaine Products lists specific non-synthetic fragrances for each of our products. All of our scents are derived from natural, botanical sources. In our face toner, the scent is derived from green tea. Green tea is also known, separately, for its healing properties. So it’s a bonus ingredient that provides a clean, fresh scent.

Our new face toner is a great addition to your skincare regimen!Plaine Products Face Care Line
