One of the most vital parts of our daily beauty routine is removing makeup at the end of the day. If we don’t remove foundation, eye liner, eye shadow, and mascara before going to bed, the residue can cause extensive damage to our skin throughout the night. It can clog our pores, leading to acne and blackhead breakouts, and begin to show signs of aging. Some eye makeup can even cause eye infections if not removed properly. Our skin renews itself while we sleep, so if we leave our makeup on then we prevent that important process from taking place.
However, most makeup removers are full of chemicals that we would like to avoid, such as emulsifiers and surfactants that can dry out and even irritate our skin. Some makeup removers also contain preservatives like formaldehyde and fragrances that can cause allergic reactions.
We want to remove makeup in a gentle and safe manner to protect our skin. One way to do this is to create your own natural makeup remover using some simple ingredients, including Plaine Products’ face wash. It is vegan, hypoallergenic, baby safe, cruelty-free, not tested on animals, made without harmful chemicals (no PEG, PG, parabens, sulfates, dyes, synthetic fragrances or petrochemicals), and has a refreshing citrus scent. You will love making your own makeup remover!
What You Need:
- A container with an airtight seal (glass or plastic)
- One cup of water
- 1 tablespoon of organic coconut oil
- 1 tablespoon of our face wash
Step-By-Step Process
Step 1. In a small saucepan, heat the 1 cup of water until it begins to boil. This is to remove any impurities in the water. Let it cool for a few minutes, so that it’s still warm, but not too hot to handle.
Step 2. Add 1 tablespoon of organic coconut oil to the warm water. Coconut oil is solid, but the warm water will cause it to turn into a liquid, which is what you want. Stir to combine.
Step 3. Add 1 tablespoon of our face wash. Stir again.
Step 4. Let the mixture cool and pour it into your container.
Step 5. You have made your own natural safe makeup remover! You are ready to add it to your daily routine. This product has a shelf life of about 6 months.
After the mixture cools, the oil and soap will probably separate from the water. This is normal and nothing to worry about. Just shake it up to mix the ingredients again.
It really works!
Please keep in mind that if you wear contact lenses, be sure to remove them before applying the makeup remover since the coconut oil can smudge your lenses.
