Plaine Products was designed to be a waste-free shopping experience. We provide an accessible, convenient alternative to single-use plastic without sacrificing quality. Our products will nourish your hair and skin in sustainable bottles. It took nearly two years from having the idea to launching to company. But that hard work has paid off. From bottles, to products, to packaging, it all works in a loop to ensure the elimination of waste and less plastic on the planet.
A WASTE-FREE SHOPPING EXPERIENCE
Our circular design means every part of the process promotes reuse. We use aluminum bottles for several reasons. Unlike plastic, aluminum is able to be completely recycled without any waste-free shopping experience loss in quality. It can be recycled at a fraction of the initial production costs and energy requirements. Each time plastic is recycled is it downgraded and can only go through the loop once or twice. Aluminum can be recycled infinitely. Historically, aluminum has proven to be one of the key materials in successful recycling programs.
Our bottles are strong enough to survive a number of trips, so they will be well worn before we recycle them. They are easily cleaned and sterilized, so we can ensure that our bottles are safe to use again and again. Also, by cleaning and reusing the bottles Plaine Products is able to create jobs. Research indicates that reuse and remanufacture create 8 – 20 jobs per thousand tons of material compared to 5-10 jobs created per thousand tons of material by traditional recycling.
ELIMINATION OF WASTE
While our pumps are plastic, we set up a delivery system which promotes reuse. Instead of the pumps ending up as waste after a single use, we don’t send pumps along with refill bottles. That way our customers can continue to use their original pumps with their refill bottles.
To further ensure a waste-free shopping experience we chose to work with EcoEnclose. Their boxes are made from a mix of 95% post-consumer waste and 5% post-industrial waste. Absolutely NO new materials are used in the manufacturing of their green shipping cartons. Best of all, EcoEnclose worked with us to develop boxes that will stand up to shipping refills and returning empty bottles to be refilled and reused. Our unique durable design also means our boxes don’t require any extra fill or packing materials. Our system was also celebrated on Tree Hugger.
OUR CIRCULAR DESIGN
How does waste-free shopping experience work? You order your preferred products. When your bottles are low you order a refill, or you can subscribe and we’ll send the bottles automatically. When the refills come you’ll switch the pumps over and send back the empty bottles in the refill box, Plaine Products covers the cost. Then we clean the bottles, refill them and reuse them. This video also explains the circular process creates a waste-free loop.
REUSE DOESN’T MEAN LOSING QUALITY
Our products are as good as our packaging. We spent a year researching natural products until we found a manufacturer whose quality amazed us while staying true to our rule of being toxin-free. As an independent check, we also run all of our ingredients through the Environmental Working Group’s database.
We guarantee our ingredients are carefully selected from nature’s most nutrient- and vitamin-rich plants, minerals, and renewable sources. We are transparent about those ingredients. They are all listed with each product as well as here.

CLOSING THE LOOP
To make access to our products as easy as possible we’ve partnered with a number of different shops throughout the US & Canada. Many of those shops, like the Package Free Shop in Brooklyn, NY will take back the bottles on our behalf. This enables us to reclaim the bottles in bulk closing the loop.
